Forest Farming Field Day

Save the date! Registration page coming soon. Hosted by Kindred CRAFT and sponsored by the Northeast Forest Farmers Coalition, participants in this hands-on workshop in the woods will help prepare a site and build infrastructure for a woods-grown forest farming plot. Attendees will learn about common indicator species and good sites for forest farming plantings in northeastern temperate forests, different methods of cultivation and types of forest farming infrastructure, and techniques for the propagation and care of medicinal forest herbs including ginseng, goldenseal, black cohosh, bloodroot, ramps, and more.

The field day will begin at 9am and lunch will be provided at 12:30pm. Participants are invited to stay for a community potluck at 6pm on the farm and encouraged to bring a dish to share. Lodging and camping options at Kindred CRAFT are available for those who wish to spend Friday and/or Saturday night—please contact nina.kindredcraft@gmail.com for more information.

We are offering this event free of charge thanks to a USDA Sustainable Agriculture Research & Education (SARE) grant. Space is limited, so please only RSVP if you are planning to attend. If you can’t make it, let us know so we can open a space for someone else to attend by emailing us at northeastforestfarming@gmail.com.
