Anna Plattner of Wild Hudson Valley leads a workshop in cultivating American ginseng.
American ginseng (Panax quinquefolius) is a native perennial plant that grows in forests throughout Eastern North America and has long been harvested for trade and medicine. This hands-on workshop is free of charge, sponsored by the NFFC, and designed to teach participants everything they need to know to start their own backyard ginseng farm! The entire workshop will take place in the woods, where we will learn how to identify ginseng, explore ginseng's habitat and its companion plants, and learn how to propagate, care for, and responsibly harvest this small but valuable plant. Participants will all get to taste ginseng herbal tea, and everyone will go home with educational materials and stratified ginseng seeds to do some test plantings at home.
