Forest farming offers an exciting strategy for cultivating high-value herbs within a natural forest setting. However, some of these herb species are very rare in our state. These rare species are protected by state law, adding complications for growers.

Join us for a workshop covering important ecological and legal considerations for forest farming of native medicinal herbs in Connecticut. This workshop will focus on two of the highest-value, rare native herbs: American ginseng and goldenseal. We will discuss the basics of forest farming and delve into the details of working with these sensitive species. This is a free, 3-hour event including a classroom presentation followed by a field walk.

Workshop hosted by the Northeast Forest Farmers Coalition in partnership with The Forest School at the Yale School of the Environment. Funding for this workshop was made possible by a grant from the U.S.Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Marketing Service. Its contents are solely the responsibility of the authors and do not necessarily represent the official views of the USDA. Funding awarded and administered by the Connecticut Department of Agriculture.
